There’s probably no one reading this that hasn’t seen The Nutcracker performed at least once during a Christmas holiday season. I want my daughter to remember us going together like a special tradition just between us the girls.
This time it was also a very special occasion as the orchestra was playing and our teacher Jennifer Morette was there as a second violin.
The Nutcracker is one of Tchaikovsky’s most popular compositions. The music belongs to the Romantic Period and contains some of his most memorable melodies, several of which are frequently used in television and film. (They are often heard in TV commercials shown during the Christmas season.) The Trepak, or Russian dance, is one of the most recognizable pieces in the ballet, along with the famous Waltz of the Flowers and March, as well as the ubiquitous Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Concert at the Container Park
December 21, 2013It was informal and it was very cold. But we could not say no to an opportunity to play at the container park as part of The Las Vegas Youth Orchestra.
What an amazing experience to sing christmas songs at church and to also get to sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. Its all about HIM, we should never forget the real meaning.

Having Nonno with us was a treat. Kids really enjoyed playing games with him and listening to his stories. The only sad part was that he had to go back to Switzerland and could not stay long enough for us to show him more about the things we love about America.
Regional Workshop with Guest Clinician Gabriel Bolkosky
November 4, 2013The students and parents learned a lot from Gabe. We are fortunate to be part of this special event.
Next year’s regional workshop will be Nov. 7 and 8, 2014, at the Heritage Center in Cedar City. We are already planning on being there 🙂

Halloween is a celebration we do not support. We prefer to celebrate the light of Jesus Christ than the darkness. But since the kids begged us to give then a chance to get dress, we joined the Mormon Church and the Calvary Church car trunk-candy-give-away that was celebrated on December 30.
